At Welcome Home Doula Services, the majority of families we support are low-income or otherwise underserved. We receive many inquiries from families each month, and when we become fully booked we like to refer them out to other local doulas who they may contact for low-cost or volunteer doula services. If you offer some volunteer or low-cost services to qualifying families, please fill out this form completely and we will add you to our referral list. Thank you for your support!
Thank you to all who have applied for our 2017 Apprentice Doula Program cohort. We will be inviting many of you to interview with us for the 2017 program year. Please keep an eye on your e-mail inboxes around the end of the month!
Friends and families of WHDS,
After six wonderful years working with the incredible team at Welcome Home Doula Services, I stepped down from my role as co-director and secretary on February 1st. Although I am sad to be leaving this amazing group, I am very happy to announce that I am moving on to begin my career as a labor and delivery nurse. This is a dream I have had — one that WHDS has supported and nurtured — for many years.
I am incredibly proud to have been a part of Welcome Home since 2011. I had the honor of training as one of the first apprentice doulas, later becoming a mentor doula, and finally serving as co-director and secretary for the last 4 years of my time with WHDS. We have accomplished so much together over the years; from expanding our Apprentice Doula Program and training 27 birth doulas, to becoming a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and providing volunteer doula support to hundreds of families in the Sacramento region. Working with this passionate group of doulas has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. I will always be especially grateful to my fellow directors Madeleine Shernock and Tina Lyon for welcoming me into the birth community as a brand new doula and for teaching me what it means to be a compassionate and social justice oriented birth professional.
I am thrilled to announce that Esmeralda Mandujano will serve as the new co-director and secretary of WHDS. We are ecstatic that Esme is joining the leadership team after spending three years as both an apprentice doula and mentor doula with WHDS. In her years as a dedicated member of WHDS, she has brought so much wisdom, experience, and love to this group and to the birthing community. She has been one of our most treasured doulas, known for her above-and-beyond commitment to families and her kind heart. I know she will continue to do great things for WHDS in this capacity, and I am so excited to see her in this new role.
Thank you for your support of me and of Welcome Home Doula Services. A special thank you to all of the families I have gotten to know throughout my time with WHDS; you have taught me so much and it has been an honor to share such beautiful moments with you. I hope to care for you again someday as a nurse!
